Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors create memories at The Hoppings. Some remember the thrill of their first big ride. Others remember winning a giant teddy, sharing candy floss with friends or hearing the familiar sounds of the fair as they stepped onto Newcastle Town Moor.
But one of our favourite traditions is seeing The Hoppings through the eyes of the next generation. That's why we're delighted to once again launch The Hoppings Art Competition, giving young people under the age of 18 the chance to become part of The Hoppings itself.
Now in its third year, the competition has quickly become a much-loved part of The Hoppings. What started as a way to celebrate the creativity of young people has grown into something much bigger. Each year, we receive incredible drawings and paintings from children of all ages, capturing everything from towering thrill rides and colourful carousels to game stalls, candy floss and family days out.
The entries don't just showcase artistic talent, they tell stories. Stories of first rides, favourite attractions, family traditions and the excitement of visiting one of the North East's most iconic events.
One of the most special parts of the competition comes when the winning and selected entries are transformed into giant banners displayed in Artwork Alley lining the entrance to The Hoppings.
As visitors arrive on the Town Moor, they're welcomed by a colourful gallery of artwork created by young people from our local communities. Over the last few years, these banners have become a feature in their own right, creating a unique and colourful welcome to the fair while celebrating the creativity and imagination of the children who visit us each year.
Thousands of visitors pass these banners during The Hoppings, making it a truly special opportunity for young artists to see their work become part of one of the North East's most loved events.
Below are the finalists from our 2026 competition.
That's the question at the heart of the competition. Whether it's your favourite ride, the excitement of winning a prize, sharing candy floss with friends, enjoying a family day out or simply the bright lights of the fair on Newcastle Town Moor, we want to see your Hoppings memories brought to life.
There are no rules when it comes to creativity. Whether it's painted, drawn, coloured or sketched, we simply want to see The Hoppings through your eyes.
Of course, there's more than just bragging rights on offer. The lucky winner will each receive a VIP experience at The Hoppings, including ride, food and drink vouchers. They'll also be invited to our special opening day event, giving them the chance to enjoy the excitement before the fair opens to the general public.
Alongside the VIP experience, a selection of the best entries will be displayed on the giant banners around the site, allowing young artists to see their work become part of The Hoppings itself.

Our entries are now closed for 2026, but we will be opening the competition for 2027 very soon.
