The Hoppings: Proud to Call the Town Moor Home
Tuesday 9th June 2026
The Town Moor is one of Newcastle's most treasured open spaces. Steeped in history and enjoyed by generations of residents and visitors, it plays a vital role in the city's identity. At Crow Events, we recognise the privilege that comes with hosting events on this unique landscape, and protecting the Town Moor remains one of our highest priorities.
Every decision we make is guided by a commitment to safeguarding the Moor for future generations while ensuring it can continue to host world-class events such as The Hoppings.
Bringing one of Europe's largest travelling fairs onto the Town Moor requires significant planning and investment to minimise our impact on the site.
To protect the ground during event build-up, we install over a mile of specialist aluminium trackway. This temporary roadway allows heavy vehicles and equipment to access the site without causing damage to the grassed areas beneath. Once equipment reaches its designated location, additional protective boarding is used to carefully position rides and attractions, helping to preserve the surface throughout the installation process.
These measures form part of a comprehensive site management programme designed to ensure the Town Moor remains protected before, during and after every event.
We are proud to work closely with the Freemen of Newcastle and other key stakeholders to support ongoing improvements to the Town Moor.
In recent years, significant investment has been made into the site's drainage infrastructure, dramatically improving ground conditions and helping the Moor cope more effectively with periods of wet weather. These improvements have transformed the resilience of the site compared to decades past, allowing the ground to recover more quickly while maintaining its long-term health.
The continued enhancement of the Town Moor's infrastructure benefits not only events but also the thousands of people who use and enjoy the space throughout the year.
Keeping the Town Moor clean is a responsibility we take extremely seriously.
Throughout the duration of our events, dedicated cleaning teams operate continuously across the site. Comprehensive cleans take place each evening after visitors leave, with further inspections and cleaning completed before the site reopens the following day.
We firmly believe that a clean environment encourages visitors to respect the space around them. That's why we provide extensive waste and recycling facilities across the event site, making it easy for guests to dispose of litter responsibly.
Our responsibility does not end when the event closes.
Once all rides, attractions and infrastructure have been removed, the entire site undergoes a thorough post-event cleaning programme. The ground is carefully inspected, swept and cleared inch by inch, before being handed back to the Freemen and Newcastle City Council.
This process helps ensure the Moor remains safe and suitable for both public use and cattle grazing, preserving its important role as working common land.
Sustainability remains an important part of our operations. Throughout our events, we actively seek opportunities to reduce waste and maximise recycling wherever possible.
By working closely with traders, contractors and suppliers, we continue to develop more environmentally responsible practices that help reduce the overall impact of large-scale events.
The Town Moor has been at the heart of Newcastle life for centuries and remains one of the city's most important community assets. As organisers of events that take place on this historic site, we understand the responsibility that comes with its use.
Crow Events is proud to play its part in protecting, maintaining and investing in the Town Moor, ensuring it remains a place where generations can continue to gather, celebrate and create memories while preserving this remarkable green space for years to come.
